Unverified accounts had so many jokes when Twitter blocked Blue Checks from tweeting after hack

So, Wednesday was not a great day at the offices of Twitter.

The verified Twitter accounts of various politicians, billionaires and celebrities were hacked around 5 p.m. ET in an apparent Bitcoin scam and data breach. The hackers posted messages from the accounts of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Kanye West, Jeff Bezos and Mike Bloomberg — among several other prominent accounts — promising to double Bitcoin contributions sent to a BTC wallet.

It was unclear exactly how the hack took place, but Twitter confirmed the breach and responded by disabling posting privileges for every verified account on the platform.

As a result, the blue-check accounts were only allowed to retweet. And while Twitter scrambled behind the scenes to address the situation, unverified accounts kept Twitter fun with plenty of jokes about the new state of Twitter.

Don’t celebrate just yet: The Blue Checks will be back. *evil laugh*
