Unusual new omicron symptom experts warn you will notice on the toilet

Experts have warned of a new omicron symptom that you will notice on the toilet.

Omicron presents different symptoms to previous variants of Covid-19, which usually manifested as a cough, a fever, and the loss of taste of smell.

Instead, omicron symptoms are much more akin to a common cold — such as a scratchy throat, a runny nose, and a headache.

As reported by Hull Live, however, a newly announced symptom is unlike all the others that have come before it.

The Centre for Disease Control (CDC) in the USA has revealed that diarrhoea may well be an indicator of the covid strain.

NBC Chicago reported people with compromised immune systems are the most likely to experience diarrhoea and other gastrointestinal symptoms.

These might be people recovering from Covid, although John Hopkins Medicine notes that around 20 per cent are likely to experience diarrhoea as a symptom shortly after catching the virus.

Of course, diarrhoea is also not necessarily a symptom of Covid as it is a symptom of other medical conditions.

The CDC lists the following symptoms as associated with Omicron:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhoea

The NHS advises that anyone with even mild symptoms of Omicron should: "Get a PCR test (test that is sent to a lab) to check if you have COVID-19 as soon as possible.

"Stay at home and do not have visitors (self-isolate) until you get your test result – only leave your home to have a test. Check if people you live with need to self-isolate."
