Unusual Machines Inc. (AMEX:UMAC) stock is trading higher on Friday. The stock is trading closer to its 52-week high of $34.36 in reaction to the update related to the U.S. government announcing tariffs on drone and related component imports.

The directive announced on Thursday focuses on bolstering the domestic drone industry and strengthening the U.S. supply chain.

Unusual Machines manufactures and sells drone components and drones, including Fat Shark, FPV (first-person view) ultra-low latency video goggles for drone pilots.

The company also retails small, acrobatic FPV drones and equipment directly to consumers through the curated Rotor Riot e-commerce store.

Tariff Implementation Specifics

The Proclamation dictates a 100% ad valorem tariff on specific categories of drones deemed highly sensitive to national security.

It includes drones exceeding a maximum takeoff weight of 25 kgs and those equipped with thermal imaging capabilities, alongside their docking stations and critical components.

Additionally, a 25% ad valorem tariff will be applied to smaller drones that do not possess these sensitive capabilities, as well as on various drone components.

A lower tariff rate of 15% is set for drones and components originating from the European Union, Japan, Liechtenstein, South Korea, Switzerland, and Taiwan.

Drones from the U.K. will incur a 10% tariff, under the condition that the majority of hardware, software, and technology originates from these nations and the U.S.

In early August, Unusual Machines reported a second-quarter loss of 16 cents per share, in line with estimates. Sales reached $16.722 million, surpassing the consensus of $9.195 million.
