'Unusual' Edwardian swimming pool in Leeds gets rave reviews - and even has its own gardens

We're moving into autumn now, and venturing outside for a swim is looking less and less attractive.

Luckily, there's lots of indoor pools across Leeds to enjoy, including this one in Bramley with a bit of extra character.

Bramley Baths is a community-run swimming pool that was first built in 1904, complete with a Russian steam room.

It still survives today, running regular swimming and gym sessions all within its original heritage building.

The baths offers swimming lessons for kids, pool parties, water and aerobic classes, and access to its gym.

One TripAdvisor reviewer wrote: "I've been swimming for nearly a year now at Bramley Baths. I love the feel inside the place, the old fashioned interior and unusual (for me at least) poolside changing rooms, make for an atypical experience.

"Their monthly membership card is cheap and saves you a good deal if you're going to attend regularly. Adult swim sessions in the morning and late evening are often quiet (especially during term time) so you can get a good swim in without being over crowded.

"We noticed the pool is just a little under standard so add a couple of laps if you like keeping record!

"The staff are always friendly when I've been in, there is a small shop for goggles and other kit. There is also a small gym on site (though I've not used it, it looks very modern and seldom overcrowded).

"There are other fitness locations in Bramley and Kirkstall but Bramley Baths remains my favourite."

Bramley Baths is particularly notable in that Leeds Council were on the brink of closing it down a decade ago.

After much protest from residents, ownership was transferred to the community, who operate and maintain it from day to day.

Based on 74 Google reviews, the baths has 4.7 out of 5 stars.

One recent visitor said: "By far my favourite ever gym and pool. The staff, volunteers and clients are all absolutely lovely and friendly. I feel welcome and looked after, and the facilities are perfect for my needs.

"Plus there's so much history there. And the architecture and gardens also need to be seen. Only place I've ever thought it was worth the membership fees and I actually look forward to going."

It costs £29 for a monthly membership at Bramley Baths, which gets you full access to all facilities.
