Unsung hero from Malahide praised for singlehandedly picking up 'years of rubbish' on Broadmeadow estuary

Grateful North County Dublin residents have thanked a good Samaritan for singlehandedly clearing up 'years of rubbish' from a scenic local waterway.

The mystery man was spotted taking on the mammoth cleaning task along the Broadmeadow Estuary on 30 April.

Eagle-eyed community activists have identified him as Malahide resident David Sedaris, who hails from Latvia.

Row erupts between locals over temporary closure of public park at Malahide Castle

The Portmarnock Community Association took to social media to praise David for his work on the estuary, which lies between Malahide and Swords.

And they've urged locals who spot the civic-minded rubbish buster to show him their appreciation.

The group wrote on Facebook: "The unsung hero is actually David Sedaris, a resident of Malahide...
