Unseasonal rains damage crops on 4k ha in Nashik

NASHIK: The recent unseasonal rains that lashed Nashik city and parts of the district during three days from Sunday to Tuesday have damaged standing crops on 4,115 hectares in 11 talukas.

An initial assessment by the state agriculture department observed that crops of 5,563 farmers from 263 villages have been affected.

According to the assessment, the affected crops include ready-to-harvest wheat on 2,419 hectares, onion on 314 hectares, grapes on 978 hectares and vegetables on 201 hectares.

Of the 11 affected talukas, maximum damage has been reported from Niphad (2,405 hectares) — wheat on 1,745 hectares and grapes on 660 hectares. Crops have been damaged on 724 hectares in Nashik taluka and 482 hectares in Yeola.
