Plans have been submitted to demolish an 'unsafe' former dockyard office in South Shields.
The application, submitted by South Tyneside Council to its own planning department, is requesting permission to knock down the building at the former Holborn Middle Dockyard, in Hill Street.
Proposals for the site, which is round the corner from the Holborn Rose and Crown pub, relate to the council's 200million masterplan to regenerate the Holborn area of the town.
According to an application form attached to the plans: "The building is extensively fire damaged and is in a unsafe and dangerous condition, and to make way for future area re-development [sic]."
The council officially unveiled its proposals earlier this month (March), which include up to 400 homes, as well as offices and 'cultural offer'.
Members of the public have until April 17 to submit any comments on the scheme to the council.
