'Unruly' sheep force police to close dual carriageway

A large flock of sheep block both lanes on dual carriageway near Tadcaster ( North Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Group )

An “unruly” flock of sheep have been herded off a dual carriageway after they blocked both lanes on the A64.

The North Yorkshire Roads Policing Group thanked motorists for their patience while they dealt with the woolly animals near Tadcaster on Sunday morning.

In a photograph posted by the force on their social media, cars and lorries waited at a distance behind the large flock.

“Without wanting to bleat on, we dealt with a large amount of baaaarmy sheep this morning being a bit woolly about what they were doing on the A64 near Tadcaster,” the force said on Facebook.

“If you were caught up in it, thank ewe for your patience.”

The force control room also tweeted: “This was the scene from the A64 earlier today when both lanes had to be shut at Tadcaster whilst we dealt with this unruly group!

“Just want to say ‘Thank Ewe’ to the public for their patience!”

The North Yorkshire Police Operational Support Unit assisted with the situation and added: “Needless to say some experienced officers with a bit of wool on their back sorted this pretty quickly.”
