Unruly East Lothian kids destroy woodland area to build gang hut and party

A gang of teens have built a hut to consume drink and drugs in by Windygoul Primary School in Tranent.

An area behind Windygoul was identified by both East Lothian Police and East Lothian Council as an area of interest after the behaviour of the youths was highlighted by local residents.

The youths had damaged nearby trees by cutting them down and had also caused vandalism to the surrounding environment in order to build the hut.

East Lothian Police have said that they believe the children are using the space to congregate, drink alcohol, smoke substances and cause incidents of vandalism.

In pictures shared by the police, debris can be seen that relates to casual drug use with small “baggies” visible on the floor.

“Baggies” can be used to hold a variety of illegal substances from small amounts of cannabis to cocaine and even MDMA.

In a statement on Facebook, East Lothian Police said: “An area behind Windygoul Primary School has been identified as an area being used by local youths to congregate, drink alcohol, smoke substances and cause incidents of vandalism.

“A “gang hut” has been built within the trees causing them to be damaged.

“This area will now be highlighted by Police and East Lothian Council Wardens as a place of interest and we will be working together to regularly patrol the area and deal with any incidents robustly.

Commenting on the antisocial behaviour, an East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of reports of anti-social behaviour at this location and will be liaising with Police Scotland to monitor the situation and consider any action which might be required.”
