'Unplayable' - Birmingham boss waxes lyrical about Manchester United midfielder Hannibal

Manchester United's on-loan midfielder Hannibal Mejbri was hailed as unplayable by Birmingham City manager John Eustace following his side's victory over West Brom on Friday night.

Hannibal scored his first senior goal in extraordinary fashion, with his quick free-kick catching David Button out at his near post as the Blues hit the front in the tenth minute. The 20-year-old made it a night to remember in the second half as he provided the assist for Krystian Bielik to double the advantage.

Speaking to the media after the game, Eustace had nothing but praise for the Tunisian. "Hanni was awesome," the Birmingham boss said.

"His energy and all-round performance was different class. He’s a 20-year-old boy on his first loan, so you’re going to get dips in form and tired legs, but tonight he was back at his best.

"He was instrumental last week too [in the 4-3 win against Swansea City]. You’ve got to take the highs and the lows and tonight he was unplayable."

Hannibal joined the St Andrews club in the summer on a season long loan deal but his contract at Old Trafford is due to expire in 2026. After praising his performance, Eustace was then asked if he would like to see the move become permanent.

The 43-year-old replied jokingly: "Listen, if you’ve got £20 million I might be able to. It’s out of my control.

"I think it’s very evident all the players we have at our club, nobody plays like they’re a loan player. We’ve got a very tight dressing room in there and it’s like a family in there.

"Everyone gets on very well and everyone is very coachable. We’ve got no egos nor any big-time Charlie’s."

So far, Hannibal has made 27 appearances for Birmingham City in all competitions, scoring once and grabbing six assists in the process. Next up for the midfielder and his loan club is the visit of Cardiff City on Valentine's Day.
