'Unoccupied' van smashes into wall in County Durham

An "unoccupied" van collided with a wall causing damage in County Durham.

Police were called to the scene in Sacriston after the vehicle smashed into the wall on Front Street.

Officers attended but said no one was injured in the incident on Friday morning.

Pictures taken at the scene show barriers which had been put in place around the debris and rubble which had fallen into the road.

A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called to reports of a one vehicle collision on Sacriston Front street shortly after 5am this morning (July 30).

"The collision which involved a white Renault Van was unoccupied at the time of the incident – nobody was injured.

"Recovery of the vehicle has since taken place and debris has been removed from the road."
