Unnerving moment strong crosswinds force pilot to abort landing at Heathrow

A quick-thinking pilot had to abandon a landing at the world's busiest airport after strong winds caused chaos metres above the tarmac.

Powerful crosswinds force an Aer Lingus plane to try again as worrying footage shows the last-second decision was made at Heathrow .

The aircraft, decked out in images of Ireland's Rugby World Cup stars, struggled against the conditions.

It moves side-to-side as the sudden gusts causes concern.

The plane is seen approaching the runway but it becomes unbalanced - forcing the pilot to pull up instead of landing in west London.

The dramatic moment was captured by a plane spotter near the airport's perimeter fence.

Meanwhile, Aer Lingus staff have rejected an offer of a €300 voucher and 1 per cent pay increase as they "continue their battle to secure a potentially lucrative profit-share agreement".

The Sunday Independent reports that that ground staff have voted by a majority of 92 per cent against the proposal.

They have been seeking a profit-share scheme since 2017.
