This is the unnerving moment a person was captured on CCTV wondering down a residential street at night trying to open car doors.
In the footage - which you can watch above - the individual can be seen walking up to a number of parked cars, looking in the windows and trying the door handles.
The individual can also be seen dressed in a hooded coat with a bag over him, while slowly inspecting every car they pass - even when an outdoor house light comes on.
The scene was recorded around 3am on Saturday, April 4, in Derby while many people where asleep in their homes, reports Derbyshire Live.
The CCTV footage - owned by Brent Smith who works at Alvaston-based design firm Graphic Worx - was taken outside of his home in Sinfin.
Mr Smith said: “I saw him on my CCTV when I got up on Saturday morning.
“There was a man going around all the cars in the street and trying their door handles at around 3am.
“With the crisis the whole world is in, you still have people like this going round and trying to steal your property
“That’s shocking to me."
The footage also acts as a stark reminder for motorists to always lock their vehicles after use.
Mr Smith adds: "Everyone, please make sure your cars and vans are locked.
"And we need to find this person and put a stop to what he is doing."
