'Unmistakable smell of cannabis' led to the arrest of man with knife at station

An 'unmistakable smell of cannabis' led to the arrest of a man who was carrying a knife at a Metrolink station, police said.

Officers confronted the teen at the platform after spotting him trying to avoid them as he got off a tram.

Police reportedly searched him and discovered a large knife and drugs.

They had stopped him after seeing him perform a 'very quick, not so subtle u-turn as he was disembarking, after spotting uniformed officers and PD Tia waiting on the platform', police from GMP Trafford South's team said.

"Unfortunately for him, this was seen by officers and when spoken too, there was an unmistakable smell of cannabis", officers posted on Facebook on Sunday afternoon.

A 17-year-old male has been arrested, officers said.

They did not post details of the arrest or include the location of the station.
