UNLV, Eagles QB Randall Cunningham hired as Raiders team chaplain

Randall Cunningham’s ties to Las Vegas are strong. He also has ties with Jon Gruden from his NFL playing days. The former UNLV and NFL quarterback has joined the Raiders staff as team chaplain.

Cunningham was a second-round pick by the Eagles out of UNLV in the 1985 draft. He would spend 16 seasons in the NFL, 11 of which with the Eagles. He went to four Pro Bowls and after coming out of retirement with the Vikings in 1997, he was named All-Pro in 1998 at the age of 35.

His final season with the Eagles was 1995, where the 32-year-old’s offensive coordinator was a 30-year-old Jon Gruden.

Cunningham is an ordained Protestant minister and most recently was the head football coach at Silverado High School in Las Vegas in 2015-16.

Previously the team’s chaplain for several years in Oakland was former running back Napoleon Kaufman who was head coach of local Oakland football powerhouse Bishop O’Dowd.
