Unlike Jay Gruden, Bill Callahan will have extra bye week practice

As soon as Bill Callahan took over as interim Washington Redskins head coach for the fired Jay Gruden, buzz about his restoring order and making things more physical spread quickly.

Players were running gassers, team captains were front and center, etc. And now, Callahan will hold an additional Wednesday practice during the bye week that Gruden normally didn’t, according to JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington.

Finlay added some context to the decision: “Callahan says he was upset with where his Redskins team was mentally in the Bills game”

Those Redskins went down 24-9 in Buffalo, totaling just 243 total yards and converting on just two of 11 attempts on third down.

This aggressive approach to the bye week for an interim coach of a 1-8 team could have unpredictable results, but it fits right in line with Callahan’s reshaping of things in his vision.
