An unlicensed driver has been charged over two alleged police pursuits through the Lake Macquarie region.
Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were patrolling Chisholm about 11.50pm on Friday following reports a construction site in the area had been broken into several times between Monday and Thursday.
During their patrol, police stopped a Holden Commodore ute and approached the vehicle to talk with the driver, when it allegedly sped off.
A pursuit took place through several suburbs - including Hexham, Charlestown and Belmont - before it was terminated at Summerland Point.
The ute was spotted again just before 1am at Kanangra Road, Summerland Point, and allegedly failed to stop for officers.
A second pursuit began but was terminated soon after for safety reasons.
The vehicle was later found dumped at Murrays Beach. During a search, police seized several items including bolt cutters, screw drivers, hammers and gloves.
Police found a 42-year-old Fern Bay man in nearby bushland and arrested him about 1.20am.
He was taken to Belmont Police Station and charged with two counts of police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, possess prohibited drug, and possess housebreaking implements.
