'Unknown smell' sees dozens of firefighters called to tower block in Redcliffe

Firefighters were called to a tower block in Redcliffe after a mysterious smell was reported tonight (November 7).

Crews from Temple, Bedminster, Southmead and Pill all attended the incident at Francombe House at 7.59pm.

On arrival they could not find anything suspicious in the area.

A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 19:59 to an unknown smell in the area.

"On arrival firefighters searched the area and found there was no sign of a fire.

"Crews from Temple, Bedminster, Southmead and Pill were in attendance."

Three weeks ago, a huge blaze broke out in the high-rise's bin room.

Speaking at the time Matthew McKenzie, visiting family in Francombe House on Commercial Road, said: "This has become a serious problem, with the bin room being set alight on a number of occasions in the last few months."
