A police constable was shot dead and another was abducted in two separate attacks in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, officials said on Thursday.

The incidents took place late on Wednesday night in Bannu and Tank districts. Police said the motive behind the attacks remains unclear and investigations are under way.
In the first incident, Constable Noor Alam, who served in the Special Branch, was killed after unidentified gunmen opened fire on him while he was travelling from his home to report for duty in Bannu district.
According to police, Alam regularly used the same route to reach his workplace. He was attacked near Masoomabad on the Bannu-Miranshah Road within the jurisdiction of Cantt Police Station. The assailants fled immediately after carrying out the shooting.
In a separate incident, Constable Irfanullah, a wireless operator posted at Shaheed Mureed Akbar Police Station, was abducted from his native village of Sheikh Awtar in Tank district while he was on leave.
District Police Officer, Tank, said a search operation had been launched and an investigation into the abduction was underway, adding that efforts were being made to ensure the safe recovery of the abducted constable.
