University student falls to death

A student fell to her death from the 8th floor of a Kasetsart University building in Chatuchak district early on Wednesday morning, leaving a message about the pressure of studying.

Students swotting for examinations on the ground floor of Lecture Hall 4 heard a loud noise about 4.30am. On investigating, they found the shoeless body of a woman wearing a student uniform lying on the ground outside.

Police called to the scene found a pair of slippers, a shoulder bag, a water bottle and a mobile phone on a balcony on the 8th floor of the 10-storey building.

The phone screen showed a message of love and apology to her parents, mentioning extreme exhaustion and lacking the strength to carry on.

The message was written at 7.07pm on Tuesday. Witnesses said the deceased woman was a 21-year-old student enrolled in the business school at Kasetsart University. She was a third-year student and a native of Rayong province. Her name was withheld.

Officials said security guards normally had all students leave the upper floors of the building before closing it at 8pm.
