University staff to strike in 14 days of action across Glasgow

University staff in Glasgow are to walk out as part of a nationwide dispute over pay and pensions.

Strathclyde, Glasgow, Caledonian and the School of Art workers will take part in the largest wave of in strikes ever to hit UK campuses.

Picket lines will be set up at entrances and a mass rally held outside the Scottish Parliament as a row between staff and management builds.

Members of the University and College Union (UCU) say they've been left with no choice but to take radical action.

UCU official Mary Senior said: "It is incredibly frustrating that UCU members are being forced to walk out again to secure fair pay, conditions and pensions. This unprecedented level of action shows just how angry staff are at their universities’ refusal to negotiate properly with us.

"If universities want to avoid continued disruption then they need to get their representatives back to the negotiating table with serious options to resolve these disputes."

Union members will take action on the following dates:

Week one - Thursday and Friday, February 20 and Friday 21

Week two – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, February 24, 25 and 26

Week three – Monday to Thursday, March 2, 3,4 and 5

Week four - Monday to Friday March 9 to 13

Striking staff will be on picket lines outside entrances to their respective universities and there will be a rally outside the Scottish Parliament at 1.00pm on Tuesday 25 February.

This is the second wave of strike action in the disputes after UCU members took part in eight day of action before Christmas.
