University of Texas System Board of Regents Chairman Kevin P. Eltife issued a stern warning on Tuesday, stating that any attempts to disrupt campus operations will not be tolerated. Eltife emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of students and campus environments, condemning the intentional disturbances caused by massive crowds of students and outside groups with no affiliation to UT.
While acknowledging the significance of free speech in educational institutions, Eltife made it clear that threats to campus safety and security, as well as non-compliance with institutional policies and laws, will not be tolerated. He highlighted the collaborative efforts between himself and UT Austin President Hartzell to safeguard the campus community.
Eltife expressed gratitude towards campus police and the Texas Department of Public Safety for their efforts in maintaining order. He emphasized that individuals, whether students violating campus policies or non-affiliated individuals breaking the law, will face full prosecution.
Out of the 79 people arrested on the University of Texas-Austin campus, 45 were found to have no affiliation with the institution. Eltife reiterated the commitment to utilizing all available resources to uphold campus safety and keep UT campuses operational.
