University of Oklahoma: Waka Flocka Flame cancels show over racism video

Waka Flocka Flame … ‘Disgusted and disappointed’

Waka Flocka Flame has cancelled a show at the University of Oklahoma after a video surfaced showing members of a campus fraternity singing a racist song.

In the video, which emerged on Sunday, members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity were shown singing a song which used the N-word to describe African-American people and said they would never be allowed in the fraternity. “You can hang him from a tree, but he can never sign with me,” the song insisted.

In May 2014, the rapper had partied with members of the fraternity and performed for them, and his show next month had been intended to be a performance for the SAE chapter at the university. In the wake of the video, however, he has pronounced himself “disgusted and disappointed” and has cancelled his appearance.

Waka released a statement via Instagram explaining his decision, and saying his shows are meant for “all races partying having a good time and enjoying themselves together peacefully”.
