University of Nottingham update after travellers pitch up on popular park

The University of Nottingham is in the midst of legal proceedings to evict an encampment of travellers from Highfields Park, Beeston. The group pitched up at the beauty spot on Friday, June 17, and a Co-op in the area reportedly had to temporarily close due to issues experienced.

A spokesperson for The University of Nottingham has said: "We are extremely disappointed at this trespass and share the dismay of anyone who is being affected or inconvenienced by it. Our Security teams are working with Nottinghamshire Police and the city council to resolve the situation as soon as possible."

They continued: "We started legal proceedings as soon as the encampment arrived last Friday to obtain the necessary eviction notices to enforce its removal. We have also reported a number of incidents of criminality allegedly linked to the encampment, to the police.”
