University of Nottingham 'pleased' by consecutive days without any new Covid cases

For the first time since it began recording its data, the University of Nottingham has recorded consecutive days without new Covid cases.

The institution has kept records of the number of new cases arising at the University since the beginning of October and on November 28 and November 29 no new cases were recorded.

Although one staff member tested positive for Covid-19 on November 30, it has been three days since a case was reported among the University's students.

In total, there are currently 20 students and staff still isolating because they had previously tested positive for the virus.

A spokesperson for the University of Nottingham said: "We are extremely pleased - although never complacent - to see such a substantial fall in our Covid infection rate among our university community.

"We believe this is in no large part due to the range of measures we put in place across our campuses to ensure they are Covid-secure environments and that we can protect the health and safety of our staff and students while we continue to deliver a blended approach to teaching and learning.

"Despite widely reported exceptions, the overwhelming majority of our students have continued to follow the national Covid guidance to help keep themselves and others around them safe and well."

The new data comes as the University of Nottingham prepares to test students before December 9 when many will travel back to their permanent homes for Christmas.

Testing through the Government's lateral flow test scheme will begin at the University on December 3 and run until December 9 at the Sports Hall on its University Park Campus.
