University of North Carolina shooting: Two killed after gunman opens fire

A gunman has killed at least two people on campus at a university, according to US media reports.

Two other people are fighting for their lives after the gunfire.

University of North Carolina in Charlotte is in "lockdown" after the shooting.

"Shots reported near kennedy. Run, Hide, Fight. Secure yourself immediately. Monitor email," tweeted University of North Carolina at Charlotte's Office of Emergency Management.

"Reported shooter in Kennedy building on #UNCC campus," tweeted a student.

Footage posted online showed police telling students to freeze with their arms raised.

Another video shows students fleeing the school as police run in the opposite direction.

It has been reported that the shooter is in custody although police in tactical gear have been seen entering the Kennedy college building.

Another tweet reads: "Paramedics are carrying a stretcher to the Kennedy building.

"Just saw a bunch of firefighters enter as well. Police carried someone out of the building and put them into a car. Car sped away."

There is no official word about the person reportedly taken into custody.

No further information has been released.
