University of Newcastle to close its Callaghan and Ourimbah campuses on Friday

THE University of Newcastle's Callaghan and Ourimbah campuses will close from Friday to Sunday evening.

UON has advised students in a message on its website that all on-site classes at these campuses will be cancelled and students should liaise with their course coordinators about their lessons.

"Given the continuing heavy rain and forecast of strong winds, Ourimbah and Callaghan campuses will be closed tomorrow, Friday 19 March, until Sunday evening," UON wrote on its website.

"We have made this decision in the interest of student, staff and visitor safety.

"The NSW Health COVID testing clinic in the University carpark at Callaghan will remain open.

Any classes due to happen on-site at Callaghan and Ourimbah on Friday 19 March will be cancelled.

"Students should liaise with their course coordinators about arrangements related to cancelled classes. They will not need to submit an adverse circumstances request.

"The closure will commence at 11.59pm tonight at Callaghan. This includes all facilities, including child care centres and The Forum.

"Given Ourimbah campus was closed today, it will remain closed.

"Staff have been encouraged to work from home or from NUspace, where possible. At Callaghan and Ourimbah, only essential staff will be allowed on site. The University has notified staff of these arrangements via email."

UON said it would provide an update before 6pm on Sunday.
