THE University of Newcastle will continue operating under its "study from home mode" until August 13, a fortnight past its original end date for the plan.
Vice Chancellor Alex Zelinsky told staff on Monday about the university's decision, which he said was made "in anticipation of an extension to the current Greater Sydney lockdown beyond 30 July".
"As per the current arrangement, all courses scheduled for face-to-face learning will continue to be offered online, according to class timetables which remain unchanged," Professor Zelinsky wrote.

"Exceptions may be given in a small number of cases for approved placements or practicums on Newcastle campuses; details have been provided to Heads of School, who should be contacted in the first instance.
"I wish to pass on that we have received a large number of positive ad hoc communications from students, thankful of how well staff have engaged with them in study-from-home and the clear communications. Well done!! Thank you for your commitment to our students' experience during this very challenging period, and for being flexible and patient as this period extends."
He said current campus arrangements would be extended until August 13.
The Sydney campus is closed, the Central Coast campuses are open only for essential operations and the Callaghan and city campuses are open under a minimal staffing model.
Professor Zelinsky said vaccinations were a "key tool" in preventing COVID-19 infections in the community and encouraged staff to get vaccinated during their work time, in negotiation with their supervisors.
"The University of Newcastle is fully compliant with all of the public health orders in place for NSW." he said.
"We will monitor the announcements regarding the NSW Government's roadmap beyond 30 July 2021 (the current lockdown period) as they occur later this week, and provide further updates to you directly as soon as information is released.
"We felt it important to make this decision today, however, to provide some time for planning in advance of those announcements. We undertake to provide advice about campus activity and operations beyond 13 August by 9 August 2021."
