University of Glasgow students self-isolating after coronavirus outbreak in halls of residence

A number of students living at the University of Glasgow's halls of residence have tested positive for coronavirus.

The university confirmed on social media that the students are now self-isolating to stop the virus spreading on campus.

The outbreak is believed to be linked to "social interactions" earlier in the month.

All those impacted are being given support to ensure they have access to food and other supplies and health and mental health services during their quarantine.

Students who break coronavirus rules surrounding mixing with other households have been warned that they face disciplinary action or a Police Scotland fine.

The University of Glasgow has reassured students that their campuses "remain safe to visit and use".

In their tweet, the University said: "We are dealing with a number of #Covid19 cases in student residences.

"We have informed Public Health officials & @scotgov The students affected are self-isolating & are being supported by our @UofGLiving team to ensure they have access to food & other supplies.

"Please take extra care to follow the guidance, including local restrictions, and do not mix with members of other households.

"Students & staff should consider downloading the Protect Scotland Test & Trace app, which allows contact tracers to inform you should you have been in close proximity to anyone who has tested positive for Covid-19."

We previously reported on how police were called to a property in Hyndland where Glasgow students were discovered hiding in cupboards.

Neighbours made a noise complaint after the party carried on into the early hours of the morning.

Fixed penalty notices were handed to the hosts with the gathering of 25 people dispersed.
