University Hospital Wishaw lights up in remembrance of lost babies for October's awareness week

University Hospital Wishaw was lit up pink and blue to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week, which ran from October 9 to 15.

The hospital joined a host of other buildings and monuments across the country, including the Scottish Government Building in Edinburgh and the Kelpies in Falkirk, in remembrance of babies who have been lost during pregnancy or shortly after birth.

The maternity and neonatal teams had a short service of remembrance and lit candles in memory of the babies.

Victoria Grove, bereavement specialist midwife for NHS Lanarkshire, said: “Although this is a very sad occasion it enabled many families to come together to unite and form friendships with people who have experienced the same tragic loss.

"We do everything we can to support families through the grieving process.

“There was also a small tree of remembrance available in the hospital sanctuary for families wishing to write a message of remembrance for their baby.”
