University Hospital Wishaw A&E unit temporarily closed due to electrical fault

University Hospital Wishaw has experienced problems with the electrical power and is urging patients "not to go to A&E" but instead travel elsewhere.

A statement posted on Monica Lennon MSP's Twitter from the hospital says: "University Hospital Wishaw has experienced interruptions with electrical power today.

"This is due to a fault with the electrical transformer unit.

"The hospital is being powered by back-up generators until normal power is restored".

Hospital staff warned patients at A&E may be redirected to another service or face a "length wait".

Those with urgent criteria will be seen first.

Some specialist urgent procedures patients may be directed to facilities in neighbouring health boards.
