HYDERABAD: Contract teachers of various universities in the state met chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday to regularise their jobs. The members of Universities Teachers’ Association (Contract) Telangana State (UTACTS), who met the CM at Warangal, submitted a representation requesting him to fulfil their long-pending demand.
“CM has assured that regularisation of contract teachers working in 11 universities of Telangana will be taken up,” said Dharma Teja, working president of the association. They said that the CM directed the principal secretary to initiate steps to regularising their jobs. After the CM’s assurance, the contract teachers performed ‘palla abhishekam’ of CM’s portrait.
In Telangana, as many as 900 contract assistant professors are working in 11 state universities for nearly two decades. Of them, 250 contract assistant professors are working at Osmania University, 140 at JNTUH, 70 at Kakatiya University, 25 at Palamuru University and remaining at other universities in the state.
