University contract lecturers seek enhanced PRC scales

The University Teachers Association (contract) Telangana Universities (UTACTS) has urged the government to apply the pay revision commission (PRC) to them, as assured 10 months ago by the government.

In a statement here, B. Niranjan, president and A. Parashuram, general secretary of the association said that the PRC enhancement of 46.15% was extended to Junior, Polytechnic, and Degree college contract lecturers from June 2021 but the university contract lecturers were ignored.

The assurance for the increase was given to the contract assistant professors of the universities by the government on several representations but for the last 10 months no action has been taken. The lecturers were losing monetary benefits while their counterparts in junior and degree colleges were drawing the enhanced amount.

Mr. Parashuram said that the Central University of Haryana has revised scales as per 7th PRC UGC pay scales and so did the University of Delhi. Similar benefits should be extended to the contract assistant professors in Telangana as promised.

He said the contract lecturers of Junior, Polytechnic and Degree Colleges teach the students of 10th, 12th and undergraduate courses while contract assistant professors are involved in teaching UG, PG and PhD students and research activities. So there is no logic denying the benefits to this group.
