University College Dublin radio station apologises for comments about Travelling community during live interview

A Dublin student radio show has apologised for remarks that were made on a college station regarding the travelling community.

The management at University College Dublin's student radio station, Belfield FM, released a statement on their website apologising for the "unfair" comments made during a live interview.

The discussion on 'Up Late With Dave' took place on 13 March and famous Love/Hate and Cardboard Gangsters actor John Connors was the special guest.

The podcast of the episode is no longer available to listen back to online and as well as this, all promotional information surrounding the broadcast has been deleted permanently.

In December, the same radio station had to apologise for lewd comments made on air about women on the 'Keepin' It Country' show.

The team acknowledged that the comments were "not acceptable" and that they accepted they were wrong.

A statement said: "We are sincerely apologetic to all who have been affected by the use of inappropriate language and disrespectful comments made on the show.

"We are aware that the comments made are not acceptable in the society in which we want to live in, that promotes equality and respect for all.

"We’ve accepted that we were wrong, and that there is a needed change of attitude regarding respectfulness and equality for everyone."
