University and GAA club pay tribute to young student found dead in Limerick

Communities in both Limerick and Leitrim are in mourning following the death of a young student at a premises in Castletroy.

Gardai are investigating the death of 19-year-old Ronan Moran from the rural town of Drumshanbo in Leitrim who was found dead at around 9.40am on Wednesday morning. Foul play is not suspected.

The talented GAA player was a first-year student studying Education in Graphics, Engineering, and Technology at the University of Limerick and had moved to the city last year to commence his studies.

In a statement, his local GAA club, Allen Gaels, said he'll be "hugely missed" by a lot of people and that the community has been left "devastated" by the news.

"Whilst the entire community and surrounds are mourning the huge loss of Ronan the greatest loss is to his devoted parents John and Geraldine, his brothers Kevin and Fergal, aunts Ann and Abina, uncles Joe and Niall and cousins Ciarán, Niall and Eve, Ronan's extended family Tarah and Colette and his girlfriend Kaitlyn,” they said in a statement.

"Ronan's presence will be hugely missed also by his wide circle of friends, his current and former teammates, managers, his colleagues and everyone who was ever graced with his beautiful smile.

"We as a community offer our heartfelt sympathies to Ronan's loved ones and we will do everything we can to support them in the very difficult days ahead."

Tributes were also paid by University of Limerick President Professor Kerstin Mey who said: "Our sympathies go out to all of Ronan’s classmates and lecturers, to his housemates, friends and fellow UL students and the many others who will be devastated by his loss."

Ronan's friends and family are set to say their final goodbye to him this Sunday in the town with a funeral mass at 1pm.

The mass will be streamed live here.
