University admission test kicks off in Japan

Test-takers of the National Center Test for university admissions wait to start the test at the University of Tokyo in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, on Saturday. The number of applicants -- 576,830 -- decreased by 5,841 from last year. The test will be held all over the country for two days until Sunday. The test has run since 1990, with next year to be the last as new Common Test for University Admissions will be launched from 2021.
