Universal Tower Defense Secret Units – Unlock Lelouch (Lulu), Ragnaw & SJW

Want to know how to unlock Lelouch (Lulu) in Universal Tower Defense? While most units are obtained through gacha summoning, some can only be unlocked through special methods. In this guide, I’ll show you how to unlock every secret and exclusive unit in Universal Tower Defense.

How to Unlock Lelouch (Lulu) Secret Unit in Universal Tower Defense

Let’s kick this guide off with the most complex secret unit to unlock, simply because of how many steps it involves. We’re talking about Lulu, inspired by Lelouch from Code Geass. This unit can only be obtained by completing a specific questline, and there’s no other way to earn it. Keep in mind that Lulu is a late-game unlock, since the quest is level-dependent. Here’s what you need to do, step-by-step.

  1. Play the game until you reach Level 30.
  2. Once you hit Level 30, go to the Mysterious Witch NPC in the lobby. She’s actually C.C. from Code Geass.
  3. She can be found sitting on a wall near the summoning area, marked by a red glowing sign above her.
  4. Press E to interact with her and begin the process of unlocking the Lelouch Secret Unit in Universal Tower Defense.
  5. This will start the quest titled “Power of Kings!”

UTD Power of Kings - Distressed Subject

The Power of Kings quest in Universal Tower Defense mentions a “distressed subject” who is “talking nonsense.” It also hints that visiting a place they’re familiar with might help - but only if you can find a specific board game. So what does all of this actually mean, and how do you complete the quest to unlock Lelouch in Universal Tower Defense?

First, you’ll need to identify which unit is considered the “distressed subject” in the lobby. This isn’t the same for everyone: you might encounter Gen (Gin Ichimaru) from Bleach, Naruto, or Luffy from One Piece. Look around the lobby for NPCs with a red glowing marker above their head. Depending on which unit you’re assigned, you’ll need to play a match on a map tied to that character’s anime.

UTD Power of Kings - Familiar Place

  • If the quest is tied to Luffy, play the Marine Base map;
  • If your quest is tied to Gen, play Hollowed Moon.
  • If you get Naruto, the Ninja Forest is the map you want to play.

When it comes to Acts, based on our experience and what content creators have shared, you can play any Act; it doesn't matter. Any Act will have what you need to complete the quest.

UTD Power of Kings - Board Game

To complete this part of the quest, you’ll need to locate three small red-and-black chessboards on the map. These always spawn in random locations, so you’ll need to search around a bit. Once you find them, interact with the boards to start a game of chess.

This will launch a simplified game of chess. You’ll need to win at least one match on any board you find. Fortunately, the matches are very easy and designed to allow quick checkmates, so this shouldn’t pose much of a challenge. If you do run into trouble, don’t hesitate to ask someone familiar with chess to help you clear this step.

UTD Power of Kings Challenges

The next four steps are fairly straightforward and involve meeting specific numerical requirements by completing various tasks, as outlined below:

  • Complete 80 Waves in a single gamemode.
  • Kill 15 Boss enemies.
  • Upgrade any relic 75 times.
  • Place any unit 5,000 times in any game mode.

For the 80 Waves requirement, the fastest approach is to play Infinite Mode on the easiest difficulty and simply grind through all 80 waves. Boss kills work the same way: load into a Story level on the lowest difficulty and defeat 15 Boss enemies. As for upgrading a Relic 75 times, it sounds worse than it is: you don’t need to level it up, only press the Power Up button 75 times. Overall, this step is fairly easy and very manageable.

By far the hardest requirement is the final one: placing any unit 5,000 times across any game mode. It’s an extremely grindy task, and even with macros, it can take around three hours to complete. There’s no shortcut here - you’ll simply have to grind it out. The fastest method I’ve found is to play Infinite Mode, use rare units with high placement caps, and repeatedly place and sell them in a continuous loop.

Once you complete all of these steps, you’ll finally unlock the Lelouch (Lulu) Secret Unit in Universal Tower Defense. He’s an excellent unit, and the time and effort required to obtain him are well worth it.

Other Universal Tower Defense Secret Units

Aside from Lelouch, there are other secret and exclusive units to get in UTD. However, unlike Lulu, these don't require completing long quest chains, just some luck and grind. Here are all the secret and exclusive units in Universal Tower Defense (via official UTD Discord):

Universal Tower Defense Secret Units FAQ

How many secret and exclusive units are there in UTD?

In total, there are currently 8 Secret and Exclusive units.

Are quests for Lelouch always the same?

Some players report that the quests are randomized. However, based on our experience and what we've seen from content creators, it seems they are always the same.

Do you need to win all three chess matches?

No, you only need to win a single match. The first working board you find is enough, and you don’t need to search for all three. Winning that one match completes this part of the quest.

Is it okay to use a macro for the 5,000 units quest?

Yes, if you don’t want to grind it out manually, you can set up a macro to handle it for you.

And there you have it, now you know how to unlock every secret unit in Universal Tower Defense. Yes, for most of them, it’s just pure grind, I’m aware of that. That’s precisely why I suggest claiming these Universal Tower Defense codes - they’ll make the grind just a tad bit easier.
