Universal Orlando Resort is closing over coronavirus

Universal Orlando Resort has announced it will temporarily close due to coronavirus.

The theme park, in Florida, has made the decision "out of an abundance of caution" in a bid to assist with America's "preventive efforts".

The closure will come into force from Monday, March 16, and is anticipated to last until the end of the month.

Unviersal Orlando Resort includes the Wizarding World of Harry Potter as well as its Revenge of the Mummy and Jurassic Park attractions.

It comes after Disney announced it will close its Florida, California and Paris sites due to the pandemic.

Universal Orlando's hotels and its shopping mall, Universal CityWalk, will be staying open.

The theme park explained that "flexible programs" are being created for guests who have booked travel packages or tickets in advance.

A statement released on Friday said: "Out of an abundance of caution and to assist with our nation's preventive efforts, Universal Orlando Resort will temporarily close its theme parks and Blue Man Group shows beginning Monday, March 16.

"We anticipate remaining closed through the end of March - but will continue to evaluate the situation.

"Universal Orlando's hotels and Universal CityWalk will remain open.

"We have created flexible programs for those guests who have booked travel packages or tickets with us.

"Guests can call this number for more information: 877-801-9720.
