Universal Credit shouldn't be rolled out to more people until DWP 'proves it's up to the job'

No more claimants should be moved on to Universal Credit until the Department for Work and Pensions “proves it’s up to the job”, MPs say.

The Commons Work and Pensions Committee said the DWP must pass
independent tests on how prepared they are for the “managed migration” of people on to the new benefit.

Universal Credit will leave two million people £1000 worse off per year

MPS are worried that the new system is not robust and will leave claimants facing delayed payments.

The final roll-out of UC is scheduled for 2023.

Committee chairman Frank Field MP Field said: “The DWP is yet to prove it’s up to the job of so-called “managed migration”.

“It should not move one person on to UC until it does test and does learn, and proves it is ready to safely do so.”
