If you claim Universal Credit or another benefit, the upcoming August bank holiday may change the date you get paid.
The August bank holiday is always on the last Monday of this month - this year it falls on August 30.
If you are due to get a benefit payment on this day, it is likely you will be paid early.
Keep in mind this means will need to make your money last longer as there will be a longer wait until your next payment.
Benefit payment dates for the August bank holiday
If you claim Universal Credit and your payment is due on Monday, August 30, you can expect to be paid the Friday before.
This means your Universal Credit payment will arrive this Friday, August 27.
The same goes for other benefits such as working tax credits and child tax credit, as well as child benefit.
Universal Credit is paid on the same day each month.
Tax credits are typically paid every four weeks or weekly, while child benefit is usually every four weeks on a Monday or Tuesday.

Other benefits including the state pension, personal independence payments (PIP), employment and support allowance (ESA) are also expected to be paid early.
You will not need to do anything if you are being paid early, as the money will still come through as normal.
Here are some of the benefits that are typically paid early when your payment day falls on a bank holiday:
- Universal Credit
- Tax Credits
- Child Benefit
- Personal Independence Payment
- Employment and Support Allowance
- Attendance Allowance
- Carer’s Allowance
- Jobseeker's Allowance
- State Pension
- Pension Credit
- Disability Living Allowance
If the benefit you claim isn't on this list, check in with the relevant office to see if there will be a change in payment date.
Baroness Stedman-Scott said: “The August bank holiday is this coming weekend, and customers due to be paid then should check to make sure they know when their payment is due, as many are being made early.”
What if I don't get paid?
If you don't get your benefit payment when you expected to, first check double-check the date on your award notice and your bank account.
If you've got the right date, and the money isn't there, you should contact the relevant helpline.
Do keep in mind these are unlikely to be open on bank holidays.
