Universal Credit and state pensions to be paid early by DWP due to Queen's Platinum Jubilee

Those due to receive benefit payments over the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend have been told to expect their money on a different day.

A four-day weekend to celebrate the Queen's 70 years on the throne will be celebrated in early June, with bank holidays on Thursday, June 2 and Friday, June 3. However, while the long weekend will mean changes for millions of benefit claimants across the UK, Wales Online and GloucestershireLive reports.

Payments such as Universal Credit are not usually paid on bank holidays and weekends so benefit claimants who are expecting their cash on June 3 may find their payments arrive earlier than usual.

Affected benefit payments are made the day before they are expected to arrive. So, if someone’s payment date is on a weekend they will receive their cash on the Friday before. Since we're in for a four-day bank holiday, the arrangements will be slightly different.

Instead, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will pay claimants their cash on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. If your payment date falls on a normal working day on either side of the long weekend, you'll get payments as normal.

You don't need to do anything if you are due to receive an early payment. Other benefits that are likely to be affected by the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend include:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Carer’s Allowance
  • Child Benefit
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Jobseeker’s Allowance
