Universal Credit £10 mobile phone deal includes unlimited data, calls & texts

A new £10-a-month mobile phone tariff with unlimited calls, texts and data has been launched for households on low incomes.

Jobseekers on certain means-tested benefits can sign up for the affordable price plan launched by Voxi from as early as today.

The "For Now" tariff, which uses Vodafone's network, is open to anyone currently claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance or employment-based Universal Credit.

It's designed to help the most financially vulnerable cut outgoings - and gives customers a 70% discount compared to the usual price for the same tariff, which costs around £35 a month.

It's a sim-only price plan which means you can use it with your current device and won't have to pay any extra charges for add-on services.

Customers on the new unlimited plan will also enjoy 4G and 5G signal across the UK.

The plan is available for up to six months and can be taken out at any time before January 31 on the Voxi website.

To apply for it, you'll need to prove you qualify and claim certain benefits.

As a result, you'll need to upload an image of your Universal Credit statement or a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions that confirms you are in receipt of state support.

Voxi says customers will be instantly verified and it won't carry out a credit check as it's a monthly rolling contract, which means you can cancel at any time.

Nick Jeffery, CEO of Vodafone UK, said: “We want to provide financial relief to those people most in need at this incredibly difficult time.

"And we want to make sure those people keep connected, because we know how vital that is – vital to finding new work, and vital to good mental health.

"If you can’t afford your current plan, or you know someone who is struggling, we can help.”

The deal is similar to BT's basic package which is aimed at those who claim Universal Credit.

The telecom giant's £5 a month plan has been created in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions.

It costs £5.16 a month and includes a call allowance of £1.50, plus free weekend calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers (lasting up to 60 minutes).

The tariff also includes a monthly £10 price cap on numbers starting 01, 02, 03, 07 and 08, which means you'll never pay more than £15.16.

It's available to anyone on income support, Jobseeker's Allowance, Pensions Credit, Employment and Support Allowance and Universal Credit - providing you have zero earnings.
