United States advanced on Wednesday night into a last 16 clash with Belgium following a 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Folarin Balogun scored on the stroke of half time to atone for earlier misses as the co-hosts dominated early proceedings at the San Francisco Bay Area Arena.

Malik Tillman struck the second for Mauricio Pochettino's side after they were reduced to 10 men following Balogun's dismissal for an ugly challenge on Tarik Muharemovic on the hour mark.

Despite their disadvantage, the US dug in to move into the last 16 for the second successive tournament.

The US will take on Belgium on 6 July in Seattle after they squeezed past Senegal 3-2.

The West Africans held a 2-0 advantage until the 86th minute when Romelu Lukaku struck his 93rd international goal to halve the deficit.

Youri Tielemans levelled three minutes later and the Belgium skipper swept home a penalty during the closing stages of extra time to score his second goal of the game and complete the comeback.
