United Kingdom's Eurovision result sparks 'boycott' calls after dismal night for James Newman

Enraged UK-based Eurovision fans have called on the country to 'boycott' Eurovision in the future after a humiliating night in Rotterdam.

While United Kingdom act James Newman was tipped by bookies to get a poor result, with some making him the favourite to finish bottom, few people would have predicted a 'nil points' outcome.

But that's exactly what happened as Brit-winning songwriter James as his track Embers failed to get a single point from either the jurors of the other competing countries or viewers across Europe.

He appeared upbeat as the camera kept cutting to him during the final, won by Italy, but fans in the UK were nowhere near as diplomatic and were left fuming with the score, or lack of it.

And in the aftermath of Saturday's final and a painfully bad evening for the UK, some fans have called on the nation to pull out of the contest with broadcasters the BBC taking their money with them.

One ranted: "Why does the BBC waste money on this stupid pointless contest. last night no points for the UK entry proves that the UK should boycott this contest for good and let the rest of Europe get on with the Eurovision contest instead of us."

Echoing those sentiments, another tweeted: "UK needs to boycott #EUROVISION. It seems like they are hellbound every year to make sure UK is last. We need to stop participating to send a message! and a third reacted: "James didn't deserve to get nil points. We should boycott Eurovision from now on. We will NEVER win again because all of Europe hate us!"

BBC host Graham Norton labelled James' result unfair, while the BBC themselves tweeted a picture of him, writing: "No matter, we’re so proud of @JamesNewmanUK. What a wonderful ambassador for the UK!."
