United Airlines to offer direct flights for Ohio State vs. both Nebraska and Wisconsin in 2019

One of the great things about some college atmospheres is that it can be the biggest ticket in a small town at times. With many colleges and universities situated in cities that are made seemingly for the campuses that they reside in, it’s often that fans flock to quaint college towns rather than big cities that have other things overshadowing it.

The bad news is that you’ve ever tried to get a direct flight from Columbus as an Ohio State fan to places like Iowa City, College Station, Lincoln, or Madison among others, it can be an all-day time suck at times.

But not any more — at least to some degree.

United Airlines has just announced plans to offer direct flights between college football opponents for the first time this fall. All in all, its planning on nine routes for the 2019 season, with two of them being right up Buckeye alley.

United will offer direct flights from Columbus to Lincoln, Nebraska on September 28 for OSU’s game against the ‘Huskers. And if that’s not “corny” enough for you, they will also double down with a route from Madison to Columbus for the game against the Badgers on October 26. That might not help out many Ohio State fans, but if you happen to be in the cheese and brat state, then you can take advantage.

United’s Vice President of Domestic Network Planning Ankit Gupta, appears bullish on giving these routes the old college try in a release by the company.

“Our playbook this year will make it easier than ever for fans, alumni and students to cheer on their teams in other college towns across the country,” said Gupta. “It’s exciting for football fans and even more exciting for United to be able to operate nonstop flights between these communities for the very first time.”

The good news? You can already stake your claim to tickets already, but you had better act quick, because they are sure sell out fast.
