United Airlines suspends pilot-lawmaker who called for hanging Hillary Clinton

United Airlines suspended pilot and Republican West Virginia lawmaker Michael Folk from flying after he said Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton should be hanged..

"This pilot has been removed from flying pending our investigation," United posted on Twitter Sunday. "We are appalled by his threatening comments."

Folk, a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, wrote on Twitter that Clinton should be tried for treason and then "hung on the mall in Washington, D.C.," according to CNN. The post was deleted.

Folk declined to comment. Folk told CNN that he was being hyperbolic about Clinton.

Folk began flying with United in 2008, according to his profile on LinkedIn. He is the vice chair of four committees in the West Virginia House of Delegates.

The West Virginia Democratic Party called on Folk to resign.

"Not only are Delegate Folk's words concerning, they are disturbing," Belinda Biafore, the party's chair, said in a statement. "Folk's actions should deem him as unfit to serve."
