A UNITED Airlines flight departing from a Scottish city was cancelled after a "mechanical fault" was found on the aircraft.
The flight from Edinburgh to Newark in New Jersey was due to depart at 1.50pm and land at 4.30pm local time on Monday.
However, an issue was detected with the Boeing 757 aircraft which led the plane to return to the gate before eventually being cancelled.
Edinburgh Live reports that those travelling on the aircraft were rebooked onto a later flight to Newark.
A spokesperson for United Airlines said: "United flight 162 from Edinburgh Airport to Newark returned safely to the gate and was cancelled due to a potential mechanical issue.
"Customers were rebooked onto the next available flight to Newark."
Edinburgh Airport recently welcomed the return of another major US airline, with American Airlines resuming their service to Philadelphia.
It is the first time the airline has set off from the Scottish capital in almost six years.
The airport connects Scottish passengers to several destinations in the US, including direct flights to Atlanta, Boston, Chicago and New York.
