A packed Christmas schedule awaits at one of Co Fermanagh’s top tourist attractions, which has opened during winter for the first time.
The Marble Arch Caves will host a series of events in the weeks leading up to Christmas, with the highlight perhaps a cave dining experience organised by two local businesses.
The schedule will also include a number of displays from local artists and craftspeople and the popular Elf trail.
On Thursday 16 December, for one night only, diners looking for a unique dining experience will be able to join Tullymill Restaurant and Cathy McGovern of Wilde Dining in one of the cave chambers and dine underground.
Cathy said it is a special experience which people will struggle to find anywhere else in the world.
“It’s pretty much unique in the world, never mind Fermanagh,” Cathy told MyFermanagh.
“We’re basically taking a group of diners down into the cave for a fine dining experience.
“There will be music, and a drinks reception as well so it’s obviously never been done before and it will be interesting logistically!”.
In other events at the caves throughout the festive period, Saturday, December 11, sees the return of the Elf Trail, where children can pick up a booklet in the Visitor Centre before heading out to the woods to find what the elves are getting up to this year.
On Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 December, the Visitor Centre will hold a ‘Meet the Maker’ event with lots of ideas for Christmas gifts for loved ones and friends.
Speaking about the upcoming programme of activities, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Councillor Errol Thompson said it was great to see a packed schedule at at time when the caves would normally be closed.
“At a time when the Marble Arch Caves would have usually closed, it’s great to see such a full festive programme of activities catering for all ages with something for everyone whether living locally or visiting the district over the Christmas period.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to explore all that the Marble Arch Caves has to offer at what is a magical time of year.”
