Casual clothing giant Uniqlo will release absorbent underwear for women in mid-September featuring a three-layer structure that can take in 30 to 40 milliliters of moisture.
Uniqlo is seeking to enter the so-called femtech field, which uses the latest technology to support women's health. This market is expected to grow, and Uniqlo is offering its underpants at a low price to boost its chances of success.
The underwear is made of Uniqlo's comfortable, quick-drying Airism fabric. The layer that touches the skin is antibacterial and anti-odor.
Four colors are available, including black and brown, and the underwear is priced at 1,990 yen. Major underwear companies have already entered the market for water-absorbent panties with products costing around 5,000, yen but Uniqlo has set a lower price in the hope that consumers will buy multiple products.
The underwear will first go on sale at Uniqlo's Ginza store in Tokyo, its Shinsaibashi store in Osaka and the brand's online store from Sept. 17. It will appear in stores nationwide from Sept. 20.
