Fast Retailing Co. on Friday opened one of its largest flagship stores in the nation, Uniqlo Tokyo, inside Marronnier Gate Ginza 2, a commercial facility building in the Ginza district.

The store was scheduled to open at 10 a.m., but the opening was advanced by about 20 minutes, because more than 300 people had formed a long line in steady rain.

For the opening ceremony, Ichikawa Ebizo, a kabuki actor who is also a promotion ambassador of the store, and Fast Retailing Chairman and President Tadashi Yanai, among others, lined up side by side for a ribbon-cutting.

"There are various places here in which both adults and children can have fun, and so I want to visit here together with my children," Ebizo said.

Toshikazu Yamaguchi, president of The Yomiuri Shimbun, which owns the building, said in his greeting address, "I hope from the bottom of my heart that this store will be a powerful trigger for giving a boost to the whole of the Ginza district."
